Race and Equality
The Nature of the
Debate
By John Harvey
What do we mean when we talk about human equality? Does the term refer to some fundamental quality
which we all share in common or is it simply a statement about the way we think
things ought to be? Do distinct human
races really exist? If so, how did they
come about in the first place, and are they a legitimate subject for study
today? Alternatively, are they simply a
social construct which we would be better-off ignoring?
In this short book (130 pages) writer and former teacher
John Harvey examines these and related issues.
He also investigates how the answers we come up with are often strongly influenced
by the social and political beliefs we find most socially acceptable.
